No better time to start than the present….on Mother’s Day.
In the wise words of my dad…
Yesterday is but a dream,
and tomorrow is only a vision,
but today, well lived,
makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
It was an uncomplicated and delightful task today.
Stomping around in a plowed corn field, flying kites so high that they made your head swim,
trudging to the creek that I hadn’t trekked to since sometime in the late 1980’s,
letting the chocolate and caramel melt in my mouth from the scrumptious morsels baked by my oldest offspring, still warm from the oven,
these were the things that made today well-lived.
Thanks, Smitty and Pete for making Mother’s Day possible and giving me a reason to consume more wine than I ever thought possible.
Just one more selfish thought concerning this day that is meant for mothers.
Beware….this is more egocentric than you might be ready for…..
I think I am starting a new tradition of celebrating Mother’s Day on the Saturday BEFORE the celebratory matriarch march.
My inner princess wants a day where I get to do only what I want.
There is a fleeting possibility that my husband would state firmly that there are many days centered around me and my castle but I will leave that fairy tale to another day.
Somehow, despite my craziness and oodles of faults, I was lucky enough to gain the best mom in the whole wide world.
I could go on and on and on and on about the things I love about her but instead I will suffice to say that she is very deserving of having an entire day devoted to her majesty…..Queen Mom….on Mother’s Day.
So Princess JB will graciously accept the day before Mother’s Day next year all to herself so I don’t have to share!
“My mother… she is beautiful, softened at the edges and tempered with a spine of steel. I want to grow old and be like her.” ~Jodi Picoult
